Werner Bischof - Photographer

Werner Bischof was a Swiss photographer who worked as a photojournalist in the 40's and 50's for many of the big international magazines of his time. Including Picture Post, Time and The Observer.

Despite his job, he hated the 'sensationalism' of the industry and instead "devoted much of his working life to looking for order and tranquility in traditional culture, something that did not endear him to picture editors looking for hot topical material."

Bischof considered himself an artist more than a photojournalist. He traveled the world taking pictures of postwar societies including Eastern and Northern Europe, Japan, Asia, India, the US and more. He died on the job whilst filming in the Andes in May 1954 in a tragic road accident, killing him and two others.

Read more and see a brilliant gallery of his work here.

Acne and the Maxi

I've have always loved a maxi skirt, I'm not sure where this originates from - but I have worn them since my teenage years. Which is part of the reason as to why I am loving the Acne SS13 collection. Dressing things down is also great in my books, something that Acne have done really well here, by teaming flowing skirts with printed graphic tops and chunky flats. See more of the collection here.

Shiny Shizzle

The 'iridescent' or 'holographic' trend has been creeping onto catwalks recently. With Hussein Chalayan and the shiny leggings and matching shoes from AW12. More currently Jonathan Saunders and Stella McCartney SS13. Is it tasteful? maybe not in all cases! is it fun? Hell yes!! I have been creating a board on Pinterest for a while now of this trend. I love the Sportmax jumper!

Have your cake and wear it

Check out this crazy cake girl! DJCosmosis is from Toronto and bakes cakes inspired by her outfits. I discovered her via the brilliant Fred Butler and her blog. These cakes are kitsch and colourful with a pinch of madness - love it! You can see pictures of the sketches, planning and building of the site on this garishly fun tumblr found here.

According to Fred, she is also launching an online magazine called Galgalz which is worth checking out, even before it's launched - due to the crazy gif madness that will ensure I look back at this in the future!

Disco Twins

I hope my sister doesn't mind me doing this! It's been a while since I have had time to mess around with layers in Photoshop!

In need of some new music to listen to...

New or old, nothing is exciting me at the moment. Recommendations welcome. I love this old video of the John Spencer Blues Explosion. Proper rock n roll!

More Backyard Bill

I love this family picture, including the dog looking in the mirror! Adam and Lily his daughter live in London (i think?) and that's about all I know. I think Adam is a model, and obviously quite eccentric and interesting judging by the house and his style. Have a look at the other family pictures here.

Blog recommendation part IV

Although it's a men's street style blog essentially, it's still well worth checking out, whatever sex you are. Mister Mort comes across some great characters in his day to day life.
