A barn conversion with a difference

Love this barn conversion in Connecticut. The actual barn itself is pretty young for a conversion - created in the 60's. Which is perhaps partly why it seems so unique. The wall of windows is stunning. Plus the repeat of all the smaller windows running down the side. I love how they have added the 'cob' style elements inside. It seems like a really nice way to create a cosy environment in what otherwise might have been an open, minimal, and perhaps cold feeling space.

House of Hackney shop opening

We went to the opening of House of Hackney's first 3 level store on Old Street. It looked stunning! This is a picture I took of the shop window featuring their Palmeral range, complete with a model in the matching dress. There is a great write up of the store on Susie Bubbles blog here.

Another time capsule!

This is the home of Ada and Leon Kagen, who have lived in this house for 57 years in a leafy suburb of Melbourne, Australia.

Their son, whilst studying a bulding diploma, was amazed to find a slide of the family house pop up whilst in an engineering lecture at college. It was apparently one of the first houses in this area to use concrete slabs in it's construction. The house has remained pretty much the same since the 50's and is in brilliant condition - including a notice board in the then teenage boys bedroom. A Houston time capsule

This house is completely 70's, it also seems to be immaculately kept and covered in foil wallpaper. A commenter on this site sums it up by saying "I love it and am terrified at the same time"

Have a look at the rest of the place. The parquet style linoleum and wallpapered ceilings are pretty scary. I almost quite love the green bedroom!

Pattern to Pattern Wallpaper

Specially designed wallpaper that allows you to go from one design to the next on the same wall and blending together. My parents have always moved into very old houses that have needed lots of work. One of the things they loved is finding all the different wallpapers from different generations of households. This effect reminds me of that.

Japanese Love Hotels

I am a big fan of the author Haruki Murakami and have read most of his books. Often strange, and surreal stories set in Japan. Many of the books mention love hotels. In the hope of finding some amazingly kitsch images,  I did a bit of googling and was not let down! There are Hello Kitty themed rooms, doctors surgery style rooms, full on S&M dungeons, rooms with waterfalls, rooms made to look like the stationary cupboards, or perhaps a train carriage is more your thing?! My favourite are the old school 70s ones - lots of images of those on this site.

Jake Phipps Mirrors

Jake Phipps, a british furniture designer, created these stunning mirrors, that look even better when photographed in this crumbling ruin of a room. Check out more of Jake's creations here. 

Fairy light tunnel

London needs to get a fairy light tunnel! maybe the annoying walk way that connects the Bank and Monument stations, then you wouldn't mind getting stuck in the human traffic. This tunnel is in Nabana no Sato, a botanical garden, Kuwana, Japan. More info and pictures on MyModernNet.

Hippy at heart

Whilst creating my Pinterest boards over the last few months, I have noticed a trend... a lot of them are quite 'hippy'. I didn't quite realise this until Pinterest came along and I don't know if I really like it, or rather that I would want to be labeled as one! Also with writing this blog, it has made me realise that if I had more money, I would definitely be wearing more colour. Here are some colourful hippy looks that I have collected along the way.

The hippy/ bohemian look - looks best in the sunshine, not so much London right now. However I am off to Ibiza at the end of the month for the first time! So i will be getting back in touch with my inner hippy then!

Martino Gamper and Francis Upritchard’s flat

I spied this on HomeCollection's blog. It's the home of artist Francis and furniture designer Martino who live in an ex-council flat in Hackney. These photographs on T Magazine, show that with a large amount of creativity, even the most boring house can be made unique and individual.

I don't know who this woman is, but I like her already... because:
She has matched/ clashed all her clothes to her and to her room.
Because she has cheapo Ikea cushions on an interiors blog (and because I have those cushions too)
and from what I can tell from this angle, her shoes are all kinds of special.

Camille Walala

Love this designers work. It covers print, fashion and interiors and furniture. It has a very bold, bright primary colours. An 80's feel that looks brilliant in the pictures that I have seen for the bar/club space XOYO in Shoreditch. Check out Camilles site here.
